Young Artist Takes Action to Fundraise for Dental Surgery

Abraham, a Puget SoundOff intern, is a recent immigrant to Seattle and winner of our District’s Congressional Art Competition for an incredible self portrait. His dreams of presenting his work in an art gallery were realized during the month of June, when his paintings and sculptures were featured in the Triangle Art Gallery at the Downtown YMCA.  The gallery served as a way to tell various stories of immigration and to raise money for dental procedures that Abraham will have to undergo over the next year.

The Globalist put out an amazing article about Abraham's experience, which kicked his fundraising into high gear.  Abraham has a donation page to raise funds, with a goal of raising $10,000.  He is more than halfway there, and he still needs more support to reach his goal.

So, we are inviting you to raise your voice and share your story. Use your creativity to send a message about violence that impacts us all, and more importantly, inspires hope in a safer tomorrow. Interview your friends or neighbors, recite a poem or create a song to express yourself...let your experience be heard.

The contest will be judged by a panel of youth, youth media educators and radio journalists. Winners will receive local and national publicity, and will be awarded grants to continue their advocacy work against teen violence.
